On Thursday, I decided to drive home 10 hours rather than spend time in three airports and on two airplanes. On Friday, I set up a new home office and began working remotely full-time.
My new home office isn't anything fancy - in fact, it's a six-foot long folding table set up in the corner of a room. We had to move some furniture to make it work, but now is the time to make concessions. We did, however, decide to set up my desk underneath a window. We moved three bird feeders from another part of the yard directly outside the window. At least if I'm going to be stuck at home for the long haul, I can enjoy my backyard birds while I work.
The most important thing is that my new "office" has a door that closes when needed and plenty of room for three monitors.

All webinars are scheduled to continue - I'll just be broadcasting from a new location. Even the podcast will carry on with some new technology, allowing us to record from our home offices.

When I ran into the office to get my headset on Friday morning, I was torn by the prospect of leaving my office fish, Puck, behind. Our office manager is still going into the office and had offered to feed him, but he was so excited to see me on Friday morning after a week out of the office that I felt terrible about spending weeks without him.
Saturday morning, my husband, daughter, and I went back to the office and rescued Puck. It was a tense six-mile drive home with a half-empty fish tank on my husband's lap, but we made it. Puck is now happily set up on my folding table of a desk, right next to me where he belongs.
More than anything, I am thankful that my husband I have careers that allow us to work remotely. We are both able to do our jobs from anywhere with an internet connection. I worry about those who do not have that option. Stay safe out there!
