Upgrading At Last

Writer's picture: Danielle DavisRoeDanielle DavisRoe

My home office is getting an upgrade at last. When my husband and I started working from home together in March, we quickly set up a folding table in a spare corner for my workstation. With a window overlooking our backyard, I quickly became comfortable in my nook.

After three months of working from home, I’ve quickly forgotten that most desks don’t have a seam in the middle, causing their keyboard and monitors to rock without carefully folded tissues or pads of paper place just right.

Soon, that will all be changing. My husband, an amateur wood crafter, designs and builds furniture in his spare time. Now that we are back on a somewhat normal schedule, he has been itching to get back into his workshop. Making me a new desk was the perfect project to get him back in there and give me a much-deserved upgrade.

Soon, I’ll be working on a custom-built desk made of curly maple and wedge, with shelves to tuck away my laptop and dock. Three new, modern monitors and a beautiful single pole stand have already arrived. With a slide-out keyboard tray, two drawers for tucking away things, and cubbies for my books, I think we’ve thought of everything.

As soon as it’s done, I’ll be sure to share pictures.
